The secret life of Emerald Green – part 2

Emerald’s boss Raymond didn’t open the pub that day, as to why his barmaid and lodgers body was found on the beach remained a mystery, all he knew was that he couldn’t face the people who would come though his doors talking, asking questions, questions that he didn’t know the answer too.

So, he sat, he sat all day waiting for Sammy O’ Riley to bang on the locked doors, he wanted to ignore it, to pretend it wasn’t happening, hope that the desperate boy would go any look for answers elsewhere but in his heart he knew that Sammy had no where else to go, he knew that it was his responsiblity to deal with the heart-broken boy, a boy who was coming his way.

It had been hours and he just sat there frozen to a rickety bar stool, and just, when he was about to go and stretch his old worn out legs it came, the knock. He opened the door to Sammy’s lost looking face but did not ask a single question instead bounded upstairs to Emerald’s room and proceeded to look though her belongings.

“Whoah there Sammy boy, what do you think you’re doing?” Asked Raymond

“Why was she dressed like that, like she was a Lady.” Cried Sammy his voice anxious

“No one can make any sense of it lad, maybe she stole it” said Raymond trying to come up with an excuse that might passivefy Sammy

“But why not to sell,  she had it on, nothing makes sense, and who was with her, who’s hands were round her neck?” Cried Sammy

“Sammy son what exactly do you think you’re going to find?” Said Raymond still remaining calm

But he knew it was useless to try and stop him, Sammy  fumbled his way  through her draws and under her bed and found nothing, and, when Sammy was about to give up hope sitting at the back of her cupboard was an envelope tucked inside a plain looking shoe. It just read

–  P.R Hammer and next to his name was an infinity sign leaving the two men curious.

Infinity

“Who’s P.R Hammer?” Said Sammy

“That would be Peter Richard Hammer, young lad delivers my milk everyday, Emerald brings him a cuppa tea before he heads off” said Raymond

Sammy frowned at the concept, then remembering how pointless jelousy was now

“What was going on?” Cried  Sammy not able to contain his frustration

“Something lad, something” said Raymond

Early the next morning

Sammy and Norman waited for P.R Hammer to arrive, like clock work same as always he started to unload the milk, but he had heard about the death of Emerald Green of course and today wanted to leave as quickly as he could, but, Sammy bounded outside before he had the chance putting pay to his plans.

“How did you know her then?” Said Sammy

“You police?” Said Peter

“No” said Sammy

“Then I don’t think it’s any of your business is it mate?” Said the cocky young man

He tipped his cap at Sammy and began walking back in the direction of his carriage

“Look, please, I just want to know what happened to her” said Sammy

“Trust me mate, you best off out of it” said Peter

“Cry your tears and when you’re done forget because that girl she ain’t know end of trouble” said Peter

“How did you know her?” Said Sammy

“I don’t, I mean I did’nt, not really, I just know a thing or two about what she wore round her neck” said Peter

Peter quickly moved his milk carriage away he thought he had already said too much.
